Description
The article studies a number of speeches by the British Prime Minister Theresa May. The purpose of the study is to explore the linguistic and extralinguistic strategies involved in the transmission of ideological messages by Th. May. The significance of the study is determined by the leading role of political discourse in the formation of public consciousness, which is transformed into a weapon of mass manipulation. Identification of verbal techniques and strategies for such an impact is becoming increasingly important in modern linguistics. This study is based upon the approach of critical discourse analysis, the genre theory and systematic functional grammar.
