The importance of figurative language in expressing impoliteness is studied in the article. During the conversation, the features of using figures of speech and the ways of performing them as means of impoliteness are studied. Irony and sarcasm play an important role in expressing impoliteness. The relationship between these figures of speech as means of impoliteness and their distinguishing features are analyzed.

This paper studies the ways in which verbal irony can be used as an impoliteness tool. From this aspect verbal irony is investigated as a politeness means or an impoliteness tool depending on the strength of criticism, in this case the main matter is equality and inequality in interlocutors’ status.
